Project Management in the Information Technology field, is still growing and most of the problems that result in project failure, are not fully understanding the complexity of technology or changing the technology during the project life cycle.  When this happens, cost overruns are common along with missed schedules. Remember that PMI (Project Management Institute) considers a failed project as one that fails to maintain the triple constraints (Cost, Schedule and Scope).

Computer Systems can be complex (such as those used in businesses) or simple (those in our home or home office),but no matter what type of system you are using, the system needs to get the job done.  Talking to a sales person at a local department store, or going on the recommendation of a friend does not always work.  Our needs do not always match those of others.

Computer Networks are more complex today then ever.  There are sometimes cheap and simple solutions that will meet your needs.  Most businesses and individuals think that wireless is the solution, but it does create problems with security.  Did you know that the Bluetooth keyboard that you use can be monitored and each and every keystroke you enter can be saved to a file?  Bank account numbers and passwords are there for the world to see.

Telephone Systems are changing today faster than expected.  The most important tool (technology) of any business is the telephone system.  These systems can be simple or complex, and the decision that you make can save you time or cost you money.  Circuit switched systems are still being installed, but the new VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) technology is really hitting the business community, thanks to an easy to use and understand signaling protocol called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol).  What was complex before with H.323 is now easy with SIP, and cheaper to implement.

Business Start-Up or Business Management starts with selecting the right business structure for your business.  By this I am talking about Sole Ownership, Partnerships or Corporations.  Each has its advantages and disadvantages, so selecting the right one is harder than most people think.  Starting a business in not a 9 to 5 job, and it is not for the weak at heart.  Money goes out and seems to never come back into the business.  Then there is the hiring problems and expenses associated with this. The book entitled "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" does not apply in business.  If you DON'T sweat the small stuff you will go broke. 

Training is ongoing, or at least it should be.  It seems that in hard economical times, companies don't want to spend the money, so training gets cut.  But when the economy recovers, these companies are now behind and have to play catch up.  Training is necessary in all forms of business.  It does not matter on the size or what your business is.  Think about the last time you walked into a retail store and the sales person was rude or was disinterested in assisting you. This is a lack of training.
